The Philharmonie
Yesterday afternoon Elise had her first rehearsal with the Berlin Philharmoniker. I walked over to the Philharmonie to meet her when the rehearsal let out, and we walked over to Potsdamer Platz to find some dinner. After walking a bit we found a restaurant, Diekmann, where we chose to eat.
My friend Daric had recommended I get a "Berliner Weisse with a shot of woodruff-syrup," so I did. It was green and very sweet. Tasted like a fruited lambic. It was good, but nothing like beer. I can't see myself getting another one.
I did avoid currywurst for once, though, and instead I got asparagus with shaved ham. The asparagus was excellent, very fresh, very moist. Elise got a tarte, which ended up being essentially a small pizza with onions, bacon and cheese. Similarly excellent.
We then came back to the hotel and went to their bar. A glass of Woodford Reserve on the rocks is €13 -- over $20!
This morning Elise is at rehearsal again. I will meet her around lunchtime to go to an open air market. This evening we will take some cheese, bread, and such and go to the grounds in front of the Reichstag for a little evening picnic.
